The job includes analyzing data sources, entering data into databases, mapping locations of rare species via ArcGIS, quality checking data, filing source documents, and library research on New Mexico plants and animals. There will also be opportunities to assist with field data collection during summer months. NHNM student technicians receive on the job training in ecological research, ArcGIS and data management through relational databases. There is potential for expanded job duties as skills are mastered. The successful candidate's work with NHNM will aid and support wildlife and habitat managers throughout New Mexico and the region. We are looking for a student who is responsible, self-disciplined, and self-motivated. Hours are flexible. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Reviews documents for relevant data to enter. 2. Enters data into NHNM databases. 3. Maps locations in GIS mapping software. 4. Checks previously entered data for accuracy. 5. Performs ecology field research tasks under supervision of senior research technicians. 6. Performs miscellaneous web and database job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications 1. Biology background desired; conservation biology preferred. 2. Knowledge of ArcGIS and databases (e.g. Microsoft Access, SQL) or other data entry. 3. Ability to organize and attention to detail. 4. Experience hiking, camping and working outside.
