Requisition ID req30433 Working Title Lab Animal Tech 2 Position Grade 09 Position Summary The Department of Psychology is seeking a Lab Animal Technician 2 (LAT2) to provide a wide range of husbandry care for a variety of animal species. The LAT2 will work under the direct supervision of the Lab Animal Facility Manager and the UNM veterinarian. This position supports the Animal Resource Facility by providing housing and care of laboratory research animals. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 1. Provide routine husbandry care including, feeding, watering, and daily observation of animals to assess their health and welfare. 2. Clean and sanitize animal cages, water bottles, sipper tubes, carts and related equipment. 3. Provide treatments as prescribed by the Veterinarian. 4. Maintains cage cards, animal histories, and other records as required. 5. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. Upon hire, the successful candidate will be expected to complete continuing education courses for safety, animal ethics, and laboratory animal care. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications 1. Experience working in a laboratory animal facility. 2. Ability to lift objects between 40-50 pounds. 3. Able to work weekends and holidays on rotational basis.
