Position Summary

The University of New Mexico
Valencia Campus is accepting applications for Student Success Specialist, Sr.
This position is responsible for:

  • Providing career exploration to include assessment,
    evaluation, and job shadowing,
  • Academic Coaching, personal guidance and gathering and
    distributing information regarding transfer to include visits to in-state
    colleges and universities.
  • Assisting students in completing, reviewing, and
    revising their Career and Academic Plans.
  • Project activity record keeping; monitoring individual progress through
    contact with participants, instructors, and other appropriate staff.
  • Giving presentations and teaching workshops as needed.
  • Monitoring and/or providing individual and/or group
    tutoring sessions.

This is a grant-funded position with
current funding that ends 08/31/2025. Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, The
University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of The
University of New Mexico which functions as a community college in the region
and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution. With an emphasis on
teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs,
technical programs, Adult Education, and Dual Credit courses to high schools in
Valencia and Socorro Counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body
of over 2,000 students per semester.

  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in
    resolving complex/sensitive issues related to student retention and
    success, including providing holistic academic, financial aid, and
    scholarship advisement
  • Experience
    working with and/or understanding the needs of first generation,
    disadvantaged students
  • At least
    three years of knowledge of career planning including career assessments
    and mentoring
  • Experience as a SSSP
    staff or student
  • At
    least three years' experience tutoring or teaching students individually or in
    scheduled group study sessions at secondary or post-secondary levels
