Description

Working under the general supervision of Principal Investigator (or Research Manager), and in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, conducts a variety of routine experiments where methodologies are clearly established. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using basic statistics. May perform literature searches under direction of supervisor.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision, and within established departmental and hospital policies and procedures, is responsible for performing a variety of general and technical duties to support the research activities within the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases in the iPSC NeuroHub, Dr. Christina Muratore.

1. Principal Duties:


  • To assist in the culture and analyses of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)
  • To perform differentiations of stem cells and analyze phenotypes of cultured cells - neurons, astrocytes, dopaminergic neurons, etc.


2. Laboratory Activities:


  • Performs tissue culture duties and uses molecular biological techniques to analyze cellular phenotypes
  • May include tissue culture, differentiation, immunocytochemistry, ELISAs, PCR and other biochemical assays
  • Prepares laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments, and equipment
  • Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures
  • Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor


3. Research Activities:


  • Performs tissue culture duties and uses molecular biological techniques to analyze cellular phenotypes
  • Uses qPCR, Western blotting, and microscopy to analyze experiments
  • May prepare samples for downstream analyses
  • Record data, summarizes, and analyzes results using basic statistics
  • Performs literature searches as applicable to research projects
  • All other duties, as assigned



Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:


  • BS/BA in a biological/physical science required.
  • New graduate with relevant course or project work.


SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:


  • Good organizational skills, detail oriented
  • Sound degree of computer literacy
  • Ability to methodically record data and to analyze data using basic statistics
  • Ability to perform a variety of routine tests and prioritize work
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism


WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Primarily based in a biochemical laboratory setup with tissue-culture hood space and desk space. No heavy lifting or moving of items required.
