Research Fellow DoM AbuGoot Lab

Brigham and Women's Hospital
United States, Massachusetts, Cambridge
65 Landsdowne Street (Show on map)
Oct 22, 2024
Description

The Abudayyeh-Gootenberg lab (abugootlab.org) at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is looking for a talented postdoctoral associate to join the team to study stem cells using genome-scale functional genomics approaches and single cell technologies in the context of aging. We are interested in fundamental and universal mechanisms of aging and using functional genomics to discover new targets and modalities for extending lifespan. In addition, we will leverage high-content data across different cell types to build machine learning models that can better identify targets for anti-aging interventions and beyond.

This is a unique opportunity for you to work with cutting-edge technology development initiatives within the AbuGoot lab, focusing on stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, cell therapy, and advanced machine learning approaches. The project is highly collaborative with other experimental and computational lab members.

The AbuGoot lab is a fast-paced and energetic group working at the frontier of molecular tool development. The lab actively encourages creativity and leadership from our postdoctoral fellows, who generally will lead multiple projects and teams within the lab.

Responsibilities will include molecular cloning, protein design, bacterial assays, mammalian cell culture, directed evolution, and animal work; working closely with research technicians, postdocs, bioinformaticians, students, and principal investigators; engaging with the scientific community through collaborations, conference talks, and publications. The position is ideal for someone interested in making a major impact in the cellular engineering and regenerative medicine fields while working in a fast-paced environment with a creative team.

Ph.D. in biological sciences, engineering, or related field; experience with mammalian cell culture, DNA assembly and characterization, high-throughput screening, molecular biology, lentiviral production, and animal work; self-motivation; ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, team-oriented setting; strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills; desire to be an integral part of a cutting-edge research team; and ability to execute detailed technical protocols meticulously. Flow cytometry, genetic engineering, aging research experience, and programming skills would be ideal.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Independently perform research projects in collaboration with other teams in the lab and the principal investigators

2. Independently execute on experimental design, setting up stem cell models, genome scale screening, and data analysis

3. Collaborate with computational members to process data and evaluate predictions.

4. Manage a team of other technicians and students to execute the project.

5. Communicate data in weekly meetings and conferences.

6. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Scientific or engineering graduate degree in the areas of biology, bioengineering, or a related field in biological/physical sciences.

A minimum of 2-4 years of relevant graduate research experience; can be 0-2 years of experience if with Master's degree.

Ability to collaboratively execute project with other members and collaborate with computational members.
