Description

We are seeking a post-doctoral fellow, in the Traverso Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital with a background in analytical chemistry. Our research group consists of an interdisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, biologists, pharmaceutical scientists, and physicians focused on developing clinically translatable biomedical devices and drug delivery systems.

The postdoctoral fellow (sr. scientist) will be a member of the bioanalytics team directly supporting several projects that require the analysis, characterization, and quantification of various small molecules, peptides, and proteins from both preclinical and clinical samples. This individual will be responsible for bioanalytical method development, assay validation, and helping to implement routine screening assays with lower-level analytical scientists. There will be opportunities for mentoring undergraduate students and technicians, in addition to interfacing with program leads and sponsors. Additional responsibilities include:

* Bioanalytical method development and validation for HPLC, LCMS, ELISA, qPCR, and ICP-MS in complex matrices (plasma, serum, organ tissues, urine, etc).

* Design automated liquid handling programs for bioanalytical sample preparation, including: protein precipitation, solid phase extraction (SPE), and supported liquid extraction (SLE).

* Validate bioanalytical methods and evaluate the validation results against internal and FDA/ICH guidelines.

* Prepare pre-clinical LCMS and GCMS samples with high precision and quality.

* Operate LCMS, ELISA, PCR, GCMS, and ICP-MS equipment to analyze pre-clinical samples provided by formulation teams.

* Troubleshoot and repair analytical instrumentation, and/or coordinate onsite repair from OEM service provider.

* Train lower level staff, students, and scientists on bioanalytical techniques and help various programs design their experiments for successful analytical outcomes.

* Assist in evaluating new capital assets and equipment for bioanalytics team.

* Write and prepare standard operating procedures.

* Support lead analytical chemist with requests, as needed.

* Manage sample tracking in LIMS.

* Document daily tasks and upload files to ELN.

* Help enforce EH&S guidelines amongst team.

Qualifications

* Ph.D. in chemistry (analytical or organic), or related field.

* Demonstrated track-record of successful analytical chemistry research or experience in a research environment.

* Track record of successful project management, ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong time management skills, and ability to self-problem solve.

* Strong background in organic chemistry and biochemistry.

* Bioanalytical assay development (HPLC, LCMS, immunological assays).

* Chromatography (HPLC, LC, CE).

* Mass spectrometry (LCMS, LC-MS/MS, LC-HRMS, GC-MS).

* ELISA and AlphaLISA.

* Electrophoresis.

* PCR and qPCR.

* Bioanalytical sample preparation: protein precipitation, SPE, SLE, LLE, desalting, etc.

* Strong publication history in peer-reviewed journals.

Ideal candidate will have experience with the above in addition to:

* Photochemical analysis (UV-vis, fluorescence, FTIR)

* Metal characterization (ICP-MS)

* Experience with DSC, TGA, and Rheometry

* Familiarity with Karl Fischer analysis

* Knowledge of antibody, protein, and peptide purification from biological matrices.

* Familiarization with chemstation, OpenLab, Masshunter, and Analyst is a plus, and prior experience operating Agilent instrumentation is preferred.

* Expertise synthesizing small molecules and/or peptides.

Candidate must have self-motivation and willingness to learn new tools and techniques; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; comfort summarizing and reporting results to interdisciplinary researchers; commitment to exceeding standards and producing accurate, high-quality work; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
