GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Responsibilities include developing and managing databases for BRASS registry, performing data entry in MS ACCESS, downloading data for analyses, assisting in analyses and preparation of manuscripts. Will implement statistical analyses and write basic programs using SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS-Internet, and HTML.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Organizes, monitors and supervises data management procedures: data entry, validation and editing; communicates effectively with research assistants and/or principal investigators regarding data management issues. Assists in planning the distribution of data management workload.

2. Develop, maintain, update, and oversee databases for several research projects. Develops and supervises the development of sophisticated relational databases using MS ACCESS for each research project. Prepares data files for more advanced analyses, regressions and correlations as requested. Assigns directories for projects and formats directories for all research studies done by staff.

3. Collaborates with researchers by providing ongoing Microsoft Access support. Collaborates with other database support staff in using specially designed programming developed for research purposes.

4. Assists staff in the execution of study design functions in the areas of patient recruitment, patient contact, questionnaire distribution, coding and entry. This includes explaining the study protocol to participants, randomizing participants to a study arm, administering educational pamphlets and surveys; and ensuring completeness of data collection.

5. Develops coding protocols for executing data management of research project in accordance with proposals and methodology with input from project principal investigator and research assistants.

6. Prepares research reports which includes generating lists for researchers and study updates on various data management items such as number of patients/subjects entered to date.

7. Performs all other job duties as requested or as necessary.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred.

At least 5 years of relevant experience.

Experience with data management preferred.

Experience with clinical research and patient recruitment preferred.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1. SAS programming language is required. Data management skills, including the creation, modification and merging of computerized data bases for a variety of studies is required. Knowledge of computerized data entry programs such as MS Access.

2. Knowledge of medical and analytical terminology.

3. Basic knowledge of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics.

4. Strong interpersonal skills are required for interacting with study personnel and patients.

5. Proven ability to work independently with little supervision.

6. Strong organizational skills.

7. Familiarity with programming for websites.
