Description

The Ivers research lab at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Center for Global Health is seeking a Science Writer/ Program Manager to manage the preparation and submission of grant applications and manuscripts to peer-reviewed scientific journals, to offer coaching and support to trainees in global health in their scientific writing, and to manage a research team.

The Ivers lab focuses on research addressing barriers to health inequities, including epidemiology, public health, and observational and intervention research in Haiti, and sub-Saharan Africa. We have a focus on diarrheal diseases, infectious diseases, and social determinants of ill-health such as food and water insecurity. Projects range from population-level studies to field epidemiology.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Science writing



  • Writes, edits, and formats original scientific content for manuscripts, grant applications, and progress reports, posters, and presentations.
  • Manages scientific communications with co-authors, collaborators, journal editors, and graphic designers to ensure quality and scientific accuracy of written documents.
  • Coordinates submission of scientific manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Preparation of protocols for IRB
  • Manages the submission of scientific manuscripts, grant applications and reports.
  • Assists graduate students and trainees in learning the process of scientific writing.
  • Provides writing and editing support to trainees



Project Management



  • Manages a research program (federal- / foundation-funded) by preparation and collection of annual applications, facilitating meetings, creation of timelines, preparation of necessary reports associated with the program
  • Supervision of a research assistant
  • Coordinate with other members of the team on assembly and preparation of all grant components

Qualifications

  • A cover letter and CV are required. Applications without both a cover letter and a CV will not be considered.
  • M.Sc. in life sciences field; PhD preferred. Background in global public health is an added advantage.
  • Ability to provide writing sample and two professional letters of reference, upon request
  • Ability to understand complex concepts and present them clearly and logically.
  • Experience with writing or editing NIH grants is highly desirable.
  • Established track record of original research publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and citation managers such as EndNote, Mendeley, and Zotero.
  • Dedicated to excellence and scientific accuracy
  • Detail-oriented and highly motivated to produce top-quality work
  • A proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently
