Full-Time Days

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Supervisor oversees all Magnetic Resonance Imaging technologists and student radiographers. The MRI Supervisor manages and is responsible for daily departmental operations in conjunction with the Radiology Program Manager.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develops staffing plan in accordance with workflow needs; publishes weekly staffing schedules.

* Collaborates with Manager in recruitment process for MRI staff positions; interviews and selects candidates.

* Develops policies and procedures for daily operations as necessary.

* Implements and maintains all regulatory compliance, including ACR, Technologist credentials, MRI safety standards regarding patients, families, employees, visitors, equipment, and the environment.

* Works with the Radiologist and BWH MRI Leadership to ensure that the imaging standards are maintained.

* Participates in the research and development of new exam or protocols and recommends changes that would improve the overall patient care and quality.

* Develops and maintains a quality assurance plan for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging program.

* Develops a workflow plan and adapts the workflow as necessary to a changing environment.

* Acts as the MR safety officer for BWFH and attends MGB and BWH MR Safety Committee.

* Ensures the safety of all patients, visitors, and hospital staff members in the MRI area through proactive screening and education of all personnel entering the area.

* Enters the appropriate charges into the EMR accurately for all exams.

* Ensures that all exams are interpreted and written reports are available in a timely manner.

* Ensures MRI equipment is working according to manufacturer specifications; schedules repairs and manufacturer recommended preventive maintenance.

* Notifies appropriate hospital personnel of MRI downtime.

* Monitors equipment performance (Quality Assurance) and takes the appropriate measures to have problems resolved (i.e. arrange service/repairs) promptly.

* Provides ongoing feedback to staff members and encourages professional development; conducts annual performance appraisals, staff meetings, 1:1 counseling and/or feedback sessions. Collaborates with human resources and department leadership, provides disciplinary action to employees when necessary.

* Consistently demonstrates effective communication, both written and verbal, with all departmental, hospital staff, and vendors.

* Participates in applicable quality and safety forums applicable to MRI operations and attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings

* Orders, stocks, and maintains par levels of supplies, with consideration to department budget.

* Completes payroll on UKG for direct reports.

* Performs all other duties as assigned or required to ensure efficient operation of the department and quality patient care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:



  • Associates Degree from an approved program in Radiologic Sciences required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.


LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):



  • ARRT or ARMRIT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging required.
  • BCLS required.
  • Massachusetts Department of Public Health licensure for Radiologic Technologist preferred.
  • ARRT registry in Radiologic Sciences preferred.


EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience required.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



  • Effectively and efficiently manage staff technologists' daily operations.
  • Must be able to multi-task and think in a proactive manner.


WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Work in an area that can be noisy and have temperature/ humidity variations.
  • Work in an area and with equipment that produces a strong magnetic field requiring strict adherence to MRI safety protocols.
  • May work/assist in settings that produce ionizing radiation. Minimal exposure possible with safe work practices. May wear lead aprons for extended periods of time. Continuous standing, sitting, and lifting.
  • Intermittent exposure to human waste and disease.
  • Must be able to lift and move 25 pounds of weight, including hospital equipment, supplies, etc.
  • May require up to 100 pounds of force in pulling/pushing/lifting/supporting movements associated with patients' ambulation, transfers to/from wheelchairs and stretchers, or other movements.
  • Potential stress from interacting with hospital staff, patients, and family members presenting with serious medical conditions.
