Description

Join a multidisciplinary group of researchers and staff that support initiatives focused on developing clinically relevant solutions to human diseases. The technical research Assistant will work with the Principal Investigator and be a central team member. Will help to oversee the planning, scheduling, and conduct of all in-vivo animal studies along with all related activities; keep accurate records, project schedules, study data, and results; participate in the submission, modification and annual review of protocols; maintain and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for in vivo animal experiment related activities; summarize and document research results/findings; research and provide content for presentations, grants, and fellowship proposals; ensure safety standards/procedures are followed, prepare lab for inspections, and correct problems; work with other lab members; and communicate, interpret, and provide training on lab policies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with Principal Investigator, establishing goals, timelines, for in-vivo experiments.

Plan, design, test, revise and maintain equipment needed for laboratory and individual studies.

Participate in the submission, modification and annual review of protocols; maintain and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for in vivo experiments related activities

Document and maintain files on all Animal experiments.

Work proactively and cooperatively with hospital staff, vendors and leadership to identify and resolve deficiencies, locate or build alternatives and otherwise support the research in a timely and effective manner.

Track, document and analyze all project related data and information, Prepare reports for leadership. Make presentations at staff meetings and to research leadership as needed. May author or contribute to department research articles and papers.

Works safely with all equipment, using personal protective equipment properly; also works safely within research laboratory conditions.

Qualifications

Excellent basic animal handling/care skills.
Experience with sample collection and administration, IACUC protocols, and SOPs.
Desire to work with animals and learn new techniques/procedures.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; comfort summarizing and reporting results to researchers.
Commitment to exceeding quality standards, providing exceptional service, and producing accurate and high-quality work.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Practiced documentation skills; and Computer skills, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Good analytical, organizational and communications skills to clearly summarize data to communicate methods used, results, and conclusions for discussion in lab meetings and other forums.
Awareness of basic safety issues and how to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

PREFERRED:

Relevant in vivo experience;
Experience with large and small animals in a research field;
Basic understanding of regulatory requirements, and AALAS (American Association of Laboratory Animal Science) certification and/or CVT (certified veterinary technician).
Ability to execute all work independently, including research related, in a highly multidisciplinary team environment.
Knowledgeable and compliant in all hospital, State and Federal regulatory requirements, including hospital policy and procedures (where applicable to the performance of the job)
