GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Research Engineer will be focused on iterative device development, ingestible/implantable electronics, embedded software development, machine learning integration, and novel drug delivery/bio-sensing system design for treatment of a variety of disease conditions.

The Research Engineer will be responsible for working with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, animal studies teams, and physicians for pre-clinical and possibly clinical testing of materials. The engineer must conduct all study related activities according to IACUC and potentially IRB guidelines.

Additional responsibilities include working in close contact with research staff, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Partners' Institutional Review Board (IRB), and fiscal/legal groups within and outside of Partners, as necessary.

The Research Engineer will work independently and under general supervision from the study investigators, provide support to clinical research studies, and may be responsible for the following activities: developing and implementing strategies for improving study logistics and execution, recommending changes to protocols, and completing administrative duties.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Lead design engineering efforts for electronically integrated devices, including miniaturized PCB fabrication and programming
  2. Lead technical architecture design decisions across many projects
  3. Work with machine vendors and an internal team to identify and develop breakthrough capabilities in medical device production
  4. Identify and integrate emerging technologies to advance the capabilities of the next generation of biomedical devices
  5. Recruit, Hire and mentor junior engineers to transfer critical skills and accelerate project development
  6. Prepare and present reports for investigators, study monitors, and research collaborators
  7. Assist with write-up of patent disclosures, protocols, and manuscripts


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:



  • BS in electrical engineering is required
  • Extensive experience with many programming languages, embedded systems programming, RF PCB design and fabrication, flexible and rigid-flex PCBs, mixed-signal PCBs, and machine learning algorithms
  • Proficiency with E-CAD programs (Altium, ki-cad, etc.)
  • Experience with power electronics, wireless power systems, communication systems, control systems, and sensors
  • Sound independent judgment and competence in research methodologies



SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



  1. Strong analytical and computer skills required for all common operating systems.
  2. Knowledge of iterative device design and development
  3. Strong organizational abilities.
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills with both internal and external communications.
  5. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet established timelines.
  6. Ability to work under deadlines to meet recruitment and project deadlines.
