Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapy Apprentice works under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapy Apprentice is responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of equipment in the various respiratory work areas and assisting the Respiratory Therapists with various procedures and tasks, as directed. The Respiratory Therapy Apprentice may be responsible for performing multiple duties that require an expertise in the assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration and troubleshooting of respiratory related equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Prep and stock 5S sheets, RT Equipment Carts, intubation boxes and RT forms.
  • Administer Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP).
  • Complete oxygen rounds (*no weaning).
  • Complete crash cart checks.
  • Clean and process equipment.
  • Educate patients on proper technique to using Nebulizer/Metered Dose Inhalers/Dry powder inhalers under direct supervision by licensed Respiratory Therapist. (year 2)
  • Perform arterial blood gas draw and analyze results under direct supervision by licensed Respiratory Therapist. (year 2)
  • Administer BiPAP/CPAP/Hi-Flow under direct supervision by licensed Respiratory Therapist. (year 2)
  • Responsible to establish an artificial airway for patients who cannot breathe independently under direct supervision by a licenses Respiratory Therapist. (year 2)
  • Responsible for transporting patients on BiPAP/Vents under direct supervision by licensed Respiratory Therapist. (year 2)
  • May administer conscious sedation under direct supervision by licensed Respiratory Therapist. (year 2)
  • Communicates, collaborates, and acts as a team player with others in order to ensure continuity and coordination of services.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
Qualifications
  • Required Must be actively enrolled in CoARC accredited RT program
  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Healthcare Preferred
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days preferred Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days preferred
