About the Department Nursing education is a practice specialty that seeks to improve the health of the community through enhancing the professional practice and competence of registered nurses and other nursing personnel.Helen DeVos Children's Hospital has a robust neurosciences program that is ranked one of the best in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. As part of the Nursing Practice and Development team, this specialized nurse educator will partner and collaborate to support pediatric neurosciences across the delivery system. Scope of work This individual will collaborate with the ambulatory pediatric neurosciences division and inpatient pediatric neurosciences to provide education and professional development to members of the nursing team. As part of the broader Nursing Practice and Development team and the Nurse Educators Forum, this role participates in these teams to advance the scope and standards of practice as a Professional Development Practitioner, as defined by the Association for Nursing Professional Development.Partnering with educator peers as well as other leaders, this role helps to meet the educational needs of nursing across Corewell Health West through standardization, innovation and the application of evidence-based practice. Oversees orientation, as part of the onboarding process, to ensure that new hire/transfer employees have the knowledge and skill to safely practice independently in their role. The educator develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts, and evaluates orientation programs for nursing and other healthcare personnel. Develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts and evaluates competency programs. The educator collaborates with operational leaders to address deficits in employee's knowledge and skills. Designs and develops educational opportunities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skills and practice. This may include obtaining continuing education approval.Fosters interprofessional learning and enables effective collaboration to improve practice outcomes for the nurse and other health care personnel. Functions as a mentor, coach, and resource in the development of nursing and other clinical support roles as the employee transitions throughout their career life cycle.
