Job Summary:

The Research Study Assistant will be housed in the Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research within the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM). This is an opportunity to participate in patient-centered, health equity, and implementation research for a portfolio of externally-funded studies focused on cardiac rehabilitation and disability. Primarily, the Research Study Assistant will work on two active studies with a common purpose of improving equity in health care access for people with disabilities. Our studies focus on: 1) development and testing of strategies to collect patients' disability status and disability-related accommodation needs in the electronic health record; and 2) provision of disability-related accommodation supports in primary care settings. This person will coordinate communication among investigators and with participating research sites, monitor research activity timelines, assist with IRB applications and study progress reports, obtain consent of research participants, support qualitative data collection, clean and code qualitative and quantitative data, and participate in analysis and dissemination activities - including preparation of abstracts, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and subsequent grant applications. This position works closely with two Principal Investigators and a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team of Co-Investigators, physicians, nurses, clinical and administrative staff in the health care system and the University, and a panel of community advisors. The Research Study Assistant will have opportunities for authorship on multiple peer-reviewed publications, and people previously in this role have successfully matriculated to attend graduate school. The position is hybrid with three days in the office; flexible work arrangements are available.

Specific Responsibilities:

Technical

  • Recruits study participants.
  • Reviews & obtains informed consent.
  • Schedules study visits with participants.
  • Conducts interviews.
  • Scores test results.
  • Collects survey data.
  • Reviews medical records.
  • Consults with nurses & physicians to determine pretreatment & eligibility requirements of protocol from completion to registration of participants.
  • Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.

Administration

  • Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.
  • Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
  • Completes portions of grant applications &/or documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols.

Finance

  • May process reimbursements for travel expenses.
  • Processes invoices &/or purchase requisitions.
  • Coordinates fund distribution among multiple sponsors and clinical sites.

Supervision

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and data
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to complete administrative documents.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Experience collecting and/or coding qualitative data
  • Working knowledge of qualitative data analysis software (MAXQDA or NVivo)
  • Experience collecting data with REDCap or Qualtrics
  • Data management skills with Microsoft Access, R, or similar software
  • Knowledge of disability justice principles

Target hiring range for this position will be between $16.55 to $20.69 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
