The Department of Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time tenure track Investigator at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as the scientific leader of health services and outcomes science in the Department of Surgery. This visionary leader will be responsible for growing our federally funded research program in health services and outcomes research, consistent with departmental and university missions. They will continue to develop and sustain ongoing collaborative relationships with research leadership throughout the department and the university. In addition to leading this program, this individual will also maintain an extramurally funded research portfolio in this domain.

Qualified candidates will be a scientist with a PhD, ScD, or commensurate training and must have an established record of extramural funding to support research efforts in a population-based science, including analyses of health services and outcomes relevant to surgery. Potential candidates may have methodologic expertise anchored in an array of disciplines including psychometrics, clinical epidemiology, patient-centered outcomes research, comparative effectiveness research, informatics, implementation science, or health disparity with existing applications to surgical care, outcomes, and/or health policy.

This individual will be responsible for growing a multi-faceted program of surgical health services and outcomes research and training. Specifically, the successful candidate will develop and manage research and academic projects and deliverables, including research submissions and awards, external collaborations, extramural funding, manuscripts, publications, and other academic efforts. They will also be instrumental in providing collaboration and mentorship to our talented researchers and trainees, including participants in existing training grants.

Secondary appointments in scientific departments within the Feinberg School of Medicine such as Medical Social Sciences and Preventive Medicine are likely with approval of the relevant department chair. These population health departments are national leaders in population health methods, behavioral and social sciences, and patient-centered methods and tools.
