Diversity and Community Engagement Coordinator Description

The MultiCare Institute for Research & Innovation is seeking a Diversity and Community Engagement Coordinator who shares our mission to achieve cancer clinical trials equity for Communities of Color through anti-racist and health justice principles. Partnering with community-based organizations, community leaders, clinical trials conduct staff, investigators, and other medical professionals, this role will support a research project designed to increase enrollment on cancer clinical trials within BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities. This is a hybrid role; the Engagement Coordinator must have the ability to travel to community-based organizations and events in the Puget Sound Region. This is a .8 FTE grant funded position that will run through August 2025.

Position Summary

The Diversity and Community Engagement Coordinator leads efforts for the MultiCare Institute for Research and Innovation (MIRI) to achieve clinical trial equity for underrepresented communities, through community building and health justice principles. In this essential position, you will bridge the gap between the MIRI team and communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. You will partner with clinical trials conduct staff, investigators, community-based organizations, community leaders, and other medical professionals, and be a part of a program designed to increase enrollment on and access to clinical trials across a range of key communities, including but not limited to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), Hispanic, rural, LGBTQ+, adolescent and young-adult and underinsured/uninsured communities.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and leaders, serving as a liaison between community partners and MultiCare Health System and MIRI.
  • Participate in community events, health fairs, and workshops to disseminate information and resources on clinical research. Host community forums for community leaders and credible messengers to provide education and listening sessions related to clinical trials.
  • Develop and deliver culturally attuned materials and education about clinical trials for historically marginalized communities in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Establish and disseminate diversity, inclusion and equity (DEI) trainings and education for MIRI staff, investigators and other healthcare system partners, as required.
  • Support the development of clinical trial recruitment campaigns targeting historically marginalized patient populations.
  • Maintain complete and accurate event and program reporting documentation, methods of outcomes measurement, and program evaluation tools to inform current and future efforts.
  • Report demographic data and identify programmatic gaps to measure efficacy of targeted recruitment and share with key partners and government bodies.
  • Ensure feedback on community needs is communicated through appropriate channels.
  • Support MIRI leadership in the development and implementation of DEI strategic planning

Requirements

  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Community involvement; i.e. volunteering or active in the community
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Previous work in social services, behavior health, or other related field
  • Current Washington State Driver's License; and proof of a safe driving record (which meets established MHS Standards) obtained by a motor vehicle report from the appropriate state

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $26.04 - $37.47 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
