Willdan Engineering has an opening for a Land Survey Assistant in Fresno, CA. The qualified individual will be responsible for panning, organizing, and directing work of one or more survey parties engaged in surveying earth's surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapmaking, land division, titles, mining or other purposes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares construction staking calculations based on requests from contractors, sends point data to crew after review and approval of PLS. Creates cut-sheets and compares as-staked points against calculated points to verify construction staking efforts were completed correctly. Reports findings to PLS.
  • Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
  • Develops new data from photogrammetric records.
  • Determines methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
  • Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
  • Coordinates findings with work of engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with project.
  • Manages phases of job with little or no supervision.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be able to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
