Description:

The role is a Laboratory Assistant 2 in a non-clinical/academic laboratory. This is not a travel position-candidates need to live in the Bay Area to commute to working physically in SF. The position is temporary with the intention of conversion to career hire at 6 months. A Bachelor's of Science is required in any scientific field. Previous laboratory experience is preferred, but not required. The candidate needs to be comfortable working in a lab environment where they will handle infectious materials and biohazardous waste. Compliance: this is a non-clinical role.

This position is for a Lab Assistant 2 in a BSL-2 and BSL-3 facility. Our mission is to find cures for neurodegenerative diseases and this includes working with prions. Our institute is composed roughly of 50 scientists, postdoctoral fellows and technicians.

Under the direction of the IND Lab Manager, the Lab Assistants will help with general operation of a large (approx. 26000 square ft) lab, in the Sandler Neurosciences building on the Mission Bay campus. Training will be provided to follow specific IND lab procedures for support and the maintenance of the BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs.

In addition, the person in this position will be required to foster and strengthen personal and professional relationships within the IND.
