Global Logistics Manager

Job Purpose:

The Global Logistics Manager will have full responsibility of managing the Logistical Flow for Sanmina's USA and Canada Plant Locations. The routing guidelines will be established, communicated and implemented such that plants know which Preferred Vendors Sanmina and its Material Suppliers should direct shipments to. This includes all modes of traffic, from Ocean, Air, Truck and Rail. The Global Logistics Manager will be responsible for the relationship with the plant personnel as well as the carriers. They are involved in RFP, RFP selection and decision and involved with quoting out new lanes of business when extraordinary needs arise which are not already covered by tariff rates. In addition to the above the Global Logistics Manager will be responsible for resolving shortages in order to keep the supply lines open and the plants lines running. The responsibility of the Global Logistics Manager also involves finding available equipment when we are subject to spot rates, ensuring extraordinary surcharges are communicated to plants and customers. The duty also involves communication with plant and sales on Freight PPV Metric, aiding in bringing the customer freight charge to a point of profitability. Lastly, the role entails recovery of tariffs whereby laws change and new imports are subject to additional tariffs. At the end of the day it all comes down to making our freight move at the most economical cost while ensuring continuity of supply with respect to Logistics.

Nature of Duties:



  • Strategic as well as tactical relationship with Sanmina's Transportation Service Providers.
  • Guide and monitor Global Transportation Services to and from North America and Canada Plants
  • Driving most cost effective transportation activities to minimize cost and maximize use of Sanmina Corporate Preferred Transportation Service Providers.
  • Create retention records and databases from different sources ( Oracle, CTSI reports, Crossdock data, Global billing reports, Shared Services data and Finance dashboard ).
  • Monitor PSL usage, usage of premium freight services, and routing guide adherence.
  • Monitoring freight expenses and finance coding to ensure correct GL accounts are charged.
  • Provide information and guidance to plant logistics managers regarding spending performance and trends.
  • Plant support for assurance of supply including daily communication with Plant Management and Logistics Personnel
  • Quoting new business and new traffic lanes
  • Securing space and equipment for critical shipments
  • Work with plants and customers to provide Surcharge information and drive recovery efforts
  • Daily communication with Plant Management and Transportation Service Providers to ensure pipeline is smooth
  • Coordinates and Consolidates domestic and international shipments
  • Reports and Communicates Freight PPV with Plant Management, Sales, EVP's in order to drive profitability
  • Interprets laws, rules and regulations regarding shipping, C-TPAT, FAST, etc
  • Tracks 301 tariff collections from customers
  • Follows up on pending 301 tariff collections
  • Tracks 301 tariff balances and aging
  • Ensures duty drawback refunds are adjusted against customer balances
  • Prepares "due from" reports for finance. Generates claims, aging, and balance reports for tariff


Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Transportation or Supply Chain
  • 8 years experience in a Global Logistics Environment
  • Freight Forwarding background helpful but not necessary
  • Must possess excellent skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint. For excel skills specifically must understand how to perform Pivot Tables and VLookups.
  • Experience using Oracle ERPW
  • Working knowledge of freight tariffs
