Cape Fox subsidiary Eagle Health, an Alaskan Native Company, is committed to supporting the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in their environmental and cultural resource management initiatives. We currently have an opening for a part-time Subject Matter Expert II (Archaeologist). This position is part-time and eligible for remote work with occasional travel, estimated to be two-three trips per quarter, each lasting three-four business days.

Our collaboration with the BIA involves a wide array of projects focusing on environmental assessments and compliance, deeply impacting tribal lands and communities across the United States. These critical roles are instrumental in driving forward the mission of the BIA, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and fostering sustainable development. Join us in this meaningful endeavor where your expertise will contribute significantly to the stewardship of natural and cultural resources in alignment with tribal and federal objectives.

Experience:



  • Five (5) year of experience is required.
  • Must have experience with coordination with Tribes, Tribal offices, state agencies, and other Federal agencies.
  • Provide specialized expertise in reviewing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) packages, especially for complex or original packages for Direct Service Tribes.
  • Knowledge/examples of how the Section 106 process was applied in projects in consultation with THPOs and SHPOs, preservation principles, and how National Register criteria for evaluating historic properties were used.
  • Conduct field surveys or affirm project coordinates when necessary, utilizing expertise in archaeology or surveying.
  • Adapt and apply knowledge to various project types, ensuring compliance with environmental and cultural standards.
  • Experience in technical writing and environmental compliance.
  • Familiar with record management and reporting.
  • Experience with public engagement, outreach and meeting facilitation.
  • Proficient knowledge of compliance and litigation risk.
  • Work together with other team members to ensure comprehensive project review and documentation.
  • Experience with travel management.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with fieldwork in remote Alaska beneficial.
