Cape Fox subsidiary Eagle Health, an Alaskan Native Company, is committed to supporting the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) in their environmental and cultural resource management initiatives. We currently have an opening for a Senior Technical Writer. This position is eligible for remote work with occasional travel, estimated to be two-three trips per quarter, each lasting three-four business days.

Our collaboration with the BIA involves a wide array of projects focusing on environmental assessments and compliance, deeply impacting tribal lands and communities across the United States. These critical roles are instrumental in driving forward the mission of the BIA, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and fostering sustainable development. Join us in this meaningful endeavor where your expertise will contribute significantly to the stewardship of natural and cultural resources in alignment with tribal and federal objectives.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in environmental science or environmental engineering.

Demonstrated experience in technical writing and environmental compliance.

Knowledge of NEPA documentation and procedures.

Tribal experience required.

Duties:



  • Review National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) packages from project proponents and provide recommendations to BIA regions.
  • Prepare initial draft NEPA documents and packages for Direct Service Tribes, ensuring adherence to environmental laws.
  • Develop process guides and other materials to assist in project review and decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with BIA regions for the finalization and decision-making of NEPA documents and package.
  • Ensure all actions comply with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 112 and Section 106 regulations.
  • Once already prepared NEPA packages that are submitted by project proponents for BIA decision are reviewed, write recommendations to the Regions, and prepare associated draft documents to the respective Region to support their review and decision-making.
  • Write original draft NEPA documents and packages on behalf of BIA for Direct Service Tribes. These draft documents and packages would be submitted to the respective Region for their finalization and subsequent decision making.
  • Prepare process guides or other technical assistance products.
  • Familiarity with fieldwork in remote Alaska beneficial for those leading travel.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
