Provides daily clinical oversight of the staff medical physicists and medical dosimetrists within the WVU Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology while performing all clinical functions appropriate for a medical physicist. Collaborates with the Director of Medical Physics to implement department standards for physics and dosimetry, as well as providing clinical direction and support in the areas of treatment planning, equipment calibrations, QC and QA measurements, patient dosimetry, special procedures (e.g., HDR, IORT), new procedure development and accreditation (e.g., ACR, APEx). Provides medical physics clinical and directional support to the Gamma Knife and other hospital departments involved in the treatment of radiation oncology patients. Provides consultative services to the physician staff on medical physics issues. Assists in ensuring, overseeing and maintaining compliance with applicable state and federal radiation regulations. Consults with the Director of Medical Physics for operational and capital budgetary needs, as well as human resource issues (e.g., performance appraisals, disciplinary actions). Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Master's Degree or higher in Medical Physics
2. ABR (American Board of Radiology) Certification
3 West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area.
EXPERIENCE:
1. 8 years of clinical experience in a progressive radiation oncology department
2. Experience as an NRC authorized physicist
3. Experience with HDR, SRS/SBRT, IMRT, Rapid Arc, TBI, Eclipse RTP, Motion Management, Image Fusion, 4D CT, CBCT/OBI


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience with Varian TrueBeam, Varian Trilogy, Varian Clinac iX, Varian VariSeed, Varian ARIA, ELEKTA GK Perfexion, Zeiss IntraBeam, Varian EMR, Velocity, brachytherapy eye plaque procedures
2. Experience with Clinical Trials

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Provides supervision and direction for the physics staff in setting daily clinical priorities and assignment of physicists to meet those priorities.
2. Provides supervision, guidance and consultation to the medical dosimetrists.
3. Provides general orientation and competency assessment of new medical physicists and medical dosimetrists.
4. Oversees and monitors the performance of weekly chart checks, periodic radiation equipment checks (weekly, monthly, yearly), QC/QA checks and calibrations performed by staff medical physicists.
5. Consults with physicians, medical dosimetrists and radiation therapists on special dosimetry needs, special treatment devices, unique patient treatment plans and all medical physics issues.
6. Manages the reporting of malfunctioning equipment and performs minor repairs on equipment.
7. Oversees and provides medical physics support for the Gamma Knife, HDR, IORT and eye plaque programs.
8. Consults with radiation oncology vendors and suppliers.
9. Works in conjunction with department leadership in the preparation of service contracts, equipment specifications, selection and purchase.
10. Collaborates with Information Technology staff to ensure the connectivity of all equipment and software.
11. Provides training and instruction to staff in radiation safety procedures associated with Gamma Knife and HDR.
12. Participates with department leadership in evaluation and budgeting of new technology as well as annual operational and capital department budgets.
13. Works collaboratively with the Radiation Oncology Manager, Radiation Oncology Nurse Manager, and Lead Radiation Therapist to meet patient needs and assure high quality of service.
14. Participates in radiation oncology weekly new patient rounds, PI meetings, Morbidity and Mortality meetings, operations meetings, and other meetings as requested.
15. Assists in the evaluation of existing clinical policies and procedures and the development and implementation of new clinical policies and procedures.
16. Serve as a resource for training and continuing education for all radiation oncology staff.
17. Act as the medical physics liaison to other hospital departments.
