Import Compliance Specialist (Houston, TX)

We are looking for an Import Compliance Specialist to support all Air Products business areas importing into the US and Canada. This position manages the import process, including relationships with brokers and compliance with relevant regulations. You will work closely with various stakeholders, ensuring the accuracy of import documentation, compliance with free trade agreements, and smooth processing of transactions.

Required Skills / Abilities:
  • Extensive experience classifying goods under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS and HTSCA)

  • Knowledge of U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) compliance and other Free Trade Agreements

  • Ability to act as a liaison between Air Products business areas, customs brokers, and freight forwarders

  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills

  • Experience with SAP ECC and SAP GTS or similar ERP systems

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred but not required:
  • Degree in a relevant field

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage import transactions into the US and Canada

  • Assign classifications to imported goods using HTS classification numbers

  • Oversee documentation for all import transactions and audit Customs Entry Summaries

  • Manage the return of U.S. and foreign goods from abroad and handle Temporary Import Bonds

  • Assist with audits performed by government agencies or internally

  • Collaborate with importers on procedures and duty minimization programs

  • Recommend proper INCO terms for international shipments

Minimum Hiring Requirements:
  • 5-8 years of experience with importing and handling international shipments

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Experience with SAP ECC and SAP GTS
