We have an immediate opening for a West Gulf Coast Health and Safety Specialistworking onsite with typical business hours split between LaPorte, Texas (~2 days) and Texas City, Texas (~2-3 days). The Health and Safety Specialist provides direct field support on activities specific to Worker Health and Safety. This position reports to the US HyCO Safety Lead and will have regional support responsibilities mainly focusing on plants in East Harris County and Texas City. Ability to travel outside of the Houston area (~15% travel outside Houston and Texas City area).

The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining contact with field facilities (including office complexes) and serving as the focal point in ensuring compliance by these locations to the corporation's current health and safety policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position will include a significant emergency response component (HAZWOPER), and will be accountable for assessing, developing, and executing safety improvement strategies for the assigned facilities in concert with corporate goals and objectives.

What you will do:

  • Mentor and support plant leaders on health and safety topics such as high risk, confined space, hot work, and complex safety activities.

  • Develop/review and ensure compliance on our global EH&S policies including emergency response procedures and training.

  • Development, execution, and evaluation of emergency response drills.

  • Development of site improvement plans stemming from Corporate Assurance and Critical Systems Audits or other H&S assessments.

  • Plant start-up support (e.g., emergency response activities, initial training, standard implementation, RMP development).

  • Assist with RMP compliance activities.

  • Participate in company safety program coaching and assessments, incident investigation and facilitation, and facility maintenance outages and/or repair projects.

  • Ensure compliance requirements as it pertains to federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Lead/assist in injury management and medical issues.

  • Lead interpretation of Global H&S Standards.

  • Lead routine review of Incident Tracking Systems (including trend analysis and remedial action validation).

  • Provide support during unannounced regulatory inspections (e.g., OSHA) and participation in post incident or announced regulatory inspections.

  • Provide direct support to teams on identifying and solving worker health and safety challenges.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to influence within a matrixed organization.

  • Ability to deliver classroom training to small and larger groups (up to 50).

  • Ability to communicate complex material in a concise manner;

  • Self-directed and self-motivated.

  • Good organization and project management skills.

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Training and experience in incident investigation (Cause and Effects Analysis, preferably Sologic).

  • Continuous Improvement facilitator training a plus (Cause and Effects, Mistake-proofing, Mapping, etc.).

  • Ability to travel to multiple facilities in the Houston area and Texas City weekly.

  • CSP preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a safety-related role within a petrochemical manufacturing facility. Industrial gas industry experience is beneficial.

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or a technical field (equivalent experience may be considered).

  • Experience in hydrogen and/or ammonia production operations is beneficial.

  • Emergency response experience specific to on-site team coordination, command, and control for a petrochemical facility.

  • Expertise in understanding and interpreting U.S. regulatory policies which include OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and CGA.

  • Proven expertise and commitment in applying corporate safety policies and procedures.

  • Proven experience in site auditing, assessment, and coaching.

  • Valid Drivers' License and good driving record required.
