Supporting the Controller's office, the compliance & controls principal is responsible for establishing and maintaining a structured system of policies and procedures as well as supporting the internal control design and effectiveness testing across the department's functional teams. The compliance and controls principal will also provide guidance, technical expertise, training and onboarding support to the functional teams in the financial services department.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead development, implementation, and operations of both accounting and decision support systems by working closely with relevant teams.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to function (e.g., payroll, accounts payable, travel processes), in accordance with St. Jude's regulatory requirements.
  • Lead reporting/ dashboards in own area ensuring quality and accuracy, and highlight issues or gaps to senior management.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (both internal and external) to drive collaboration and alignment between multiple teams.
  • Coordinate and monitor compliance with best practices around financial accounting/payroll/taxation procedures.
  • Support overall planning of major accounting and financial reporting systems for the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, finance, or related field of study required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: 6+ years of accounting experience working with a general ledger and/or related financial information systems.
  • Strong experience with accounting standards and regulations (e.g., IRS, US GAAP, Uniform Guidance, hospital regulations) within specific area.
  • Experience presenting in team meetings and/or to senior management.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.
  • Internal Audit experience preferred
  • Grants experience a plus
  • Workday experience preferred
  • Project Management experience strongly desired
  • Professional certification (e.g. Certified Public Accountant (CPA)/Certified Research Accountant (CRA)/Certified Management Accountant (CMA)) preferred

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $94,640 - $169,520 per year for the role of Compliance and Control Principal - Financial Services.
