United States, Tennessee, Memphis
262 Danny Thomas Place (Show on map)
Sep 22, 2024
A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Esther Obeng.

Project Description:

The Obeng Laboratory is seeking creative and highly motivated candidates for a fully supported postdoctoral fellowship studying the pathogenesis of myeloid malignancies. The major interests of the lab are determining how acquired mutations in hematopoietic stem cells lead to the development of pre-leukemic conditions including clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Our ultimate goal is to identify and validate novel treatments that selectively target malignant clones and prevent their transformation into myeloid leukemias.

Position Responsibilities:

In this position, you will gain extensive experience and training in genomics, stem cell biology, computational biology, in vivo models of disease, and pre-clinical study development. You will have the opportunity to develop and lead projects using several cutting-edge model systems including:

  • Isogenic immortalized cell lines generated using CRISPR-Cas genome editing
  • Novel xenograft and transgenic in vivo model systems
  • Induced pluripotent stem cells
  • Primary patient samples

Minimum Education and/or Training:

Successful applicants will have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, computational biology or a related field; a strong publication record; and excellent communication skills.

Special Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

To succeed in this position, applicants must have a strong cell and molecular biology background and an interest in working with in vivo model systems. Applicants with expertise in hematopoietic stem cell biology, genome editing, RNA biology, immunology, or computational biology are strongly encouraged to apply.
