JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Postdoctoral Fellow Advertisement, Krishnakumar Lab, Pennsylvania State University Are you excited about metabolomics, soils, and molecular biology? Do you want to solve complex novel issues in rootstock-scion interactions in one of the U.S.'s highly valued specialty crops - Apple? The newly formed Kumar Lab at Penn State University is looking for a highly motivated self-starter postdoctoral fellow to work on soil-rootstock-scion interactions and their impact on fruit quality. The selected candidate will get to work with top-of-the-line research facilities at Penn State University and collaborations that have been established with top rootstock breeders and scientists in the field of temperate fruit pomology. Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology, horticulture, biology, or a related field of study. We highly value candidates with strong publication records, and individuals who are highly passionate and motivated to solve complex scientific problems. Skills in molecular biology and metabolomics are must (LC-MS, HPLC, RT-PCR, RNA Seq, Functional studies). Experience with soil-roots interaction is also a plus. Some qualities that are expected of a postdoctoral candidate in the Krishnakumar Lab * The candidate is highly independent and can formulate a research plan and execute it based on the information provided. * The Kumar lab is relatively new and hence part of your job will involve discussion on equipment and setting up the lab along with the PI. Equipment in other labs is available for use until the lab is fully set up. * Ability to comfortably drive a vehicle/pickup truck (Have a full license or get one within a month of starting the position) * Guiding graduate students in laboratory techniques will be part of the job. Responsibilities will include research, grant and paper writing, lab setup, and training undergraduate and graduate students in various lab techniques. The post-doctoral associate will also be given multiple opportunities to present their research in relevant forums in Pennsylvania as well at a national conference. Opportunities will also be provided for PDF's to contribute to writing grants.
