Our Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is committed to providing the highest quality clinical pharmaceutical care to children, integrating research findings into clinical practice as swiftly as possible.

We have an immediate opening for a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to join our dynamic team. As an integral member of the patient care team, you will play a vital role in enhancing patient outcomes and advancing our mission. Your responsibilities will include:

Clinical Services: Provide delegated clinical services, participate in multidisciplinary discussions regarding patient care, and ensure the proper application and compliance with research protocols.

Education: Educate patients and families, and engage in professional education activities, including ACPE-accredited presentations, didactic and experiential training with pharmacy students, and mentoring clinical staff pharmacists and pharmacy residents.

Research Collaboration: Collaborate in research protocol development and contribute to various research endeavors.

Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional education and development activities, including supporting the ASHP-accredited Specialty Residency in Oncology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drug Distribution and Control - Demonstrates working knowledge of all drug distribution and control functions of pharmacy operations. Works effectively with pharmacy staff and other clinical staff regarding operational issues. Responds effectively and in a timely manner in collaboration with other pharmacists to address all patient care needs.
  • Clinical and Professional Services - Provides and coordinates clinical pharmacy services with special emphasis on delegated clinical services as defined in policy. Provides drug information and other clinical pharmacy expertise for care of patients; serves as medication therapy expert for assigned medical service. Collaborates with departmental leadership in the development and conduct of performance improvement activities, with a focus on drug therapy prescribing and monitoring. Collaborates with pharmacy and other members of clinical staff to facilitate seamless transfer of patient care through effective medication reconciliation efforts. Exhibits knowledge of protocols for all medical services and recognizes variations from defined drug-therapy-related elements of each protocol.
  • Research Program Support - Participates actively in the departmental clinical research programs. Provides patient specific information, progress reports, and updates on relevant protocol patients at departmental meetings. Develops (independently or collaboratively) clinical research protocols as deemed necessary and appropriate for departmental or institutional goals.
  • Education and Informatics Support - Collaborates with Clinical Informatics to support the development of information systems and processes (such as Powerplans) needed for successful integration of CPOE. Participates (upon request) in departmental educational efforts in the provision of pharmacist and other professional training. Serves as an effective and reliable educator and role model for pharmacy residents. Serves as an effective and reliable educator and role model for pharmacy students on experiential rotations.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide and facilitate optimal drug therapy of assigned patient care groups. Achieves and maintains competencies required to assure excellent provision of collaborative pharmacy patient care services, as defined in institutional policy on Collaborative Physician and Clinical Pharmacist Drug Therapy Management
  • Departmental and Institutional Responsibilities - Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Serves on selected departmental and institutional committees.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree

Minimum Experience:

  • Completion of a clinical pharmacy specialty residency in Oncology or Pediatrics is required.
  • In absence of residency training, at least five (5) years clinical experience may be considered.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification, by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties in a relevant area (e.g., Pharmacotherapy, Oncology, Nutrition Support, etc.) is required.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • (LC: PHARM-TN) Licensure by the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $114,400 - $216,320 per year for the role of Pharmacist-Clinical Specialist.
