Job Summary |
Graduate Assistantship Overview Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a graduate assistantship in Learning Center for the 2024-2025 academic year, which is eligible for renewal for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a student position. Interested applicants will need to submit an application for admission into a degree seeking graduate program at
elmhurst.edu/graduatestudies and be accepted before becoming eligible for consideration for a graduate assistant position that correlates with their area of study.
Graduate assistants at Elmhurst University may be hired for a full tuition waiver based on 20 hours of service per week. Graduate assistants will also receive a stipend while they are working, paid bi-weekly, in support of their continued education. Graduate assistants will participate in their assistantships during the Fall and Spring terms at minimum and may be required to participate during January and/or Summer terms.
Eligible Graduate Programs: M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership, M.S.Ed. in Special Education, M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or M.B.A.
Weekly Hours: 20
Tuition Waiver: Full
Stipend: $2,500 per academic year, September-December and February-May
Terms: Fall, Spring
Special Notation: Offers for this position are conditional upon acceptance into one of the above noted graduate programs at Elmhurst University. Graduate students must maintain full-time enrollment in their graduate program in order to maintain a graduate assistantship.
Nature of Work
The Graduate Assistant for the Learning Center will work one-on-one with peers as they brainstorm, outline, draft, revise, and edit writing projects for a wide array of courses. Help us achieve our mission to empower students by providing holistic academic support in an inclusive environment to develop skills, strategies, and behaviors needed to be successful lifelong learners. This position is supervised by the Director of the Learning Center. |

Essential Functions |
- Work with graduate students from a variety of courses at all stages of the writing process
- Use question-asking strategies to help peers interpret assignment prompts and rubrics, develop and draft their own ideas, and engage in global revision and sentence-level editing
- Collaborate with the Learning Center team to develop, market, deliver, and assess evidence-based skills programming, such as graduate writing workshops, graduate writing groups, and GRE study groups.
- Maintain accurate records of appointments and services
- Participate in ongoing in-person and online professional development throughout the term
- Instruct students in the use of the online scheduling system, My Tutoring
- Promote the Learning Center with peers and through occasional classroom visits

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Excellent writing skills and a working knowledge of the writing process
- Familiarity with locating and citing credible sources
- Effective interpersonal communication skills and a desire to help others develop as writers
- A growth mindset, a commitment to inclusion, and a dependable demeanor

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements |
Employee is typically subject to indoor work, though some outdoor work may be required. Physical activities include repetitive motion and exerting up to 10 pounds of force in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. |
