Clinical Staff Pharmacist - Night Shift (7 on/7 off)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drug Distribution and Control - Interprets and processes patient medication orders accuracy and efficiently. Maintains appropriate and accurate dispensing records including computer medication profiles, investigational drugs and controlled substances. Performs appropriate dose checking and medication profile review upon receipt of any medication request from a clinician as outlined by department practice standards. Interprets/understands detailed requirements of drug therapy protocols and assures orders generated are consistent with protocol requirements. Uses knowledge of aseptic techniques/processes and, when necessary, aseptically prepares medications and supervises aseptic preparation of compounded sterile products. Directs technicians in the preparation of medications, insuring accuracy, efficiency and timeliness. Assures that medications are delivered to appropriate patient care areas for administration to patients in a timely manner. Performs as a Pharmacist in all Satellite or Central Pharmacy areas as needed and maintains basic Pharmacy Operation standards as dictated by those areas.
  • Clinical and Professional Service - Provides accurate drug information as necessary and upon request based upon an assessment of individual orders and patient conditions to optimize patient care. Documents drug information and other relevant clinical activities in the information system consistently with defined policy. Communicates effectively with colleagues and patients to foster quality service and care; appropriately communicates unresolved issues. Routinely performs patient education and counseling in a manner consistent with defined department expectations. Participates in Harvey Teams and drills as assigned. Actively contributes to departmental quality improvement efforts and drug utilization evaluation programs as assigned. Routinely submits medication event reports to the electronic event reporting system (EERS), and adverse drug reaction reports to Power chart. Contributes to staff development programs and in-services upon request. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new therapeutics and drug delivery technology. Documents the electronic medical record completion of Medication Reconciliations for any discharge, transfer, or admission occurring after hours, including weekends and holidays per department practice standards and as schedules dictate
  • Research Program Support - Contributes to ongoing departmental and institutional research programs and improvement efforts upon request. Monitors protocol compliance for all patients by assuring appropriate protocol enrollment and dosing and scheduling accuracy. Documents significant protocol deviations and variances and all other significant interventions in the provision of patient care. Provides and insures optimal drug distribution services for protocol patients. Offers suggestions for improvements in drug delivery policies and procedures to insure optimal patient care. Assists in drug, device, or technology evaluation programs as requested.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served through the pharmacy or assigned care team, and continues ongoing professional growth. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development, and their implications to drug therapy, for all ages served. Identifies the patient age- and disease-specific characteristics and needs, and communicates and/or modifies therapy appropriately. Provides age-appropriate care for all ages served. Demonstrates ability to interpret/understand detailed requirements of drug therapy protocols, and is able to assure orders generated or received from care are consistent with protocol requirements. Maintains activities consistent with continuing professional development, and contributes to the professional development and educational efforts of the department.
  • Departmental and Institutional Responsibilities - Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Serves on selected departmental and institutional committees as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmacy Education and eligible for pharmacy licensure in Tennessee

Minimum Experience:

  • Hospital pharmacy practice experience or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • (LC: PHARM-TN) Licensure by the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $50.00 - $89.50 per hour for the role of Clinical Staff Pharmacist - Night Shift (7 on/7 off).
