Job Summary |
Elmhurst University invites applications for the position of Instructional Technologist in the Center for Scholarship and Teaching. The Center for Scholarship and Teaching provides professional development support to full-time and part-time faculty across the University. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative team environment to support faculty in the use of technology for teaching and learning, including the University's learning management system (currently Blackboard). The instructional technologist provides individualized support for faculty, as well as designing and implementing training for faculty, with a focus on student success. The Center partners with the Office and Information Systems and the A. C. Buehler Library to meet a wide range of faculty development needs supporting the institutional mission, vision, and values. Essential Functions |
- Provides course and curricular instructional technology support for part-time and full-time faculty using academic and educational software and tools, including the University's learning management system (currently Blackboard).
- Provides regular drop-in support for faculty in the Center for Scholarship and Teaching's physical space.
- Designs and conducts professional development courses for part-time and full-time faculty offered by the Center for Scholarship and Teaching (CST).
- Provides development support for faculty developing new hybrid or online graduate programs.
- Provides professional development training to faculty and staff working with specific student populations, such as first-year, adult, and graduate students.
- Consults with individual faculty and faculty teams and serves as a resource to faculty in the design, development, evaluation, and revision of courses to support a learning-centered environment.
- Collaborates with Academic Affairs, the Office of Information Services and the A. C. Buehler Library faculty on issues related to the University's learning management system and related tools.
- Collaborates with the Office of Information Services and with Student Accessibility Services on technological solutions for enhanced learning and accessibility.
- Develops online training materials for faculty.
- Recommends and implements effective strategies for supporting faculty learners.
- Participates in other CST programing.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Master's Degree in educational technology, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, information technology or a related field.
- Previous teaching experience, experience with adult learners and graduate students desirable.
- Online course experience.
- Proficiency with Blackboard course management system or similar systems (e.g., Moodle, Canvas, Desire2Learn, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience utilizing a wide range of technologies.
- Ability to work independently and self-directed.
- Experience working directly with faculty from a variety of disciplines.
- Familiarity with using technology for the assessment of student learning.
- Knowledge of instructional design theories and evidence-based best practices.
- Technical skills appropriate to an instructional designer position and awareness of cutting-edge online learning strategies and tools (e.g., learning management systems, videoconferencing and emerging online tools and technologies).

Preferred Qualifications |
- Doctorate in educational technology, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, information technology or a related field.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Strong creative, analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated skill in effective project management, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once; ability to effectively manage projects that involve diverse individuals who may be local or at a distance.
- Attention to detail and an ability to critically assess own work as well as the work of others.
- Familiarity with ADA 508 regulations.
- Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- Multicultural competence - the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways.
- Intellectual curiosity and dedication to ongoing professional growth.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements |
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object. |
