Summary:

The Senior Baader Technician performs and supervises a team of skilled machine maintenance workers at production facilities and/or onboard vessels at various locations as assigned. This work includes assembling, rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining Baader fish filleting machines, Baader fish trimming machines, Baader scaling machines, Baader fish skinning machines, and/or Baader fish mincing machines by performing the following duties:

Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs):

  • Repairs and maintains the Baader electrical systems (includes angle encoder, clock generator, proximity switches, limit switches, step motor and controller).
  • Repairs and maintains the mechanical systems of fish filleting machines (includes chain drives, bearings, belt drives, pulleys, back guides, bone guides, step motor belts, gearboxes).
  • Trains Baader Machine operating crews in safe and efficient procedures.
  • Always ensures adequate inventory by tracking the supply of machine replacement parts and placing requisitions as necessary.
  • Determines appropriate machine adjustments by communicating with Quality Control regarding product specifications.
  • Sets and adjusts the machine's guides, knives, spike chains and sliding blocks in accordance with operational specifications and safety procedures.
  • Completes product recovery tests as necessary making machine adjustments to ensure the desired conversion factors and yield ratios are successfully achieved.
  • Makes adjustments to ensure that the desired conversion factors and yield ratios are being successfully achieved.
  • Tests the machines to verify step motors and tooling are set up and running properly.
  • Completes related maintenance documentation which may include machine logbooks, work orders, test reports, part inventories and part orders.
  • Performs previously listed responsibilities on Ryco, Berger, etc. process equipment.
  • Understands and is able to implement safe work procedures.
  • Schedules maintenance and repair.
  • Supervises line crew as a team leader and is proficient at troubleshooting.
  • Repairs machinery using proficient TIG welding skills.
  • Schedules personnel, equipment overhaul, and installation as needed.
  • Reports progress and keeps plant management updated.
  • Acts as a mentor to team members and provides corrective guidance as needed.
  • Conducts training sessions on all assigned machinery.
  • Develops procedures and provides process improvement recommendations improving efficiency.
  • Responsible for attending L2 MBU and/or production meetings daily.
  • Oversees the Factory rather than a section of equipment.
  • Signs the FSQA log for lost tools or missing parts from the machinery.
  • Runs Daily MBU's.
  • Evaluates yearly progression of Baader Techs (using forms from the 'Training Program')
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident's Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs):

  • Completed all 'Baader Tech Training Objectives'
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor`s degree and twelve years of related experience
  • Baader Certificate or equivalent training and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one to supervisor and other organization employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Preferred education and experience:

  • Proficient with basic TIG welding.
  • Proficient with basic fabrication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Mental demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training, and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
