Summary:

The Lab Technician supports daily R&D operations at the Innovation Center. The primary responsibilities for this role are ensuring that the kitchen area and equipment are cleaned and organized. This is a part-time role with a weekly schedule of 11am to 4pm Monday through Thursday.

Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs)

  • Ensures and maintains a safe and sanitary environment in food laboratory, test kitchen, R&D office.
  • Cleans and maintains food laboratory/kitchen and conference room daily
  • Washes all dishes and utensils utilized by the R&D team throughout the day as needed. Returns all dishes and utensils to their appropriate storage places.
  • Cleans deep fryers and changes oil as needed
  • Cleans air vents, ovens, grill monthly
  • Cleans lab freezers and refrigerators on a weekly basis and initiates ingredients/products clean up
  • Assists walk-in freezer clean-ups with R&D team and renders samples when required.
  • Maintains and operates basic food laboratory/kitchen equipment and some specialized equipment, ensures regular clean-up sanitation of the equipment
  • Monitors cleaning and sanitation supplies and communicates when supplies need

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly rate of $21 to $23.

Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • Previous experience working in the food service industry, food safety, or related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English
  • Proficient in MS Office computer applications to access information and communicate through email and basic technical programs.
  • Self-directed with minimal supervision.

Preferred education and experience

  • A high school diploma

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

This role is based in the Research & Development Center, which includes an industrial kitchen and an office setting. Noise levels can be moderate to high and can include exposure to hot and cold temperatures.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
