JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician

JOB LOCATION: MONTGOMERY, AL

Maintains equipment, fixturing and tooling for the plant, including forklifts, material handling equipment, air compressors, boilers, HVAC equipment and any outside contracts associated with the maintenance of this equipment and any other equipment at the Lear facility. Hours will be worked Sunday-Thursday from 10:30pm-6:30am with occasional overtime during the work week and weekends.

This is the second level in the Maintenance Skill Progression. This position is distinguished from the Associate level by the performance of the difficult tasks and duties assigned and in assisting higher-level staff in performance the more complex and sophisticated tasks. Employees at this level are expected to perform with same independence of direction and judgment on matter allocated to the senior level. This position receives immediate supervision from the Maintenance Team Leader or Senior Maintenance Technician(s).

The Role:

The following duties are typical for this classification. However, any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties which may be performed.

Incumbents in this role must:



  • Perform maintenance activities on the following types of equipment:


  • Automated lines
  • Air compressors
  • Vacuum equipment
  • Boilers
  • Forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Conveyors
  • HVAC equipment
  • Plumbing
  • Lighting
  • Process equipment, i.e. frame build fixtures, trim & close fixtures, final build fixtures, etc.
  • In - line testers
  • OC3 testers
  • Tooling, i.e. torque tools, hog ring guns, glue equipment, etc.
  • Other equipment, tooling and fixtures, not described above.


  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs and data for the means of establishing sound maintenance management of all equipment, building and grounds.
  • Collect data that is pertinent to the maintaining of all equipment.
  • Assist engineering and facilities management in the managing of outside contractors, i.e. mechanical, electrical, HVAC contractors.
  • Have responsibility for project management or projects that fall within the scope of the Maintenance Department.
  • Assist engineers in the set-up and de-bugging of new and modified equipment.
  • Have responsibility for the set-up of various types of process equipment, like automated lines, in line testers, torque monitoring equipment, etc.
  • Be responsible for assuring that risk is minimized through the use of safe maintenance procedures and good housekeeping of the plant and grounds.
  • Participate in team activities where maintenance input is required.
  • Assist engineering and facilities management in special projects.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as deemed necessary by facilities management.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:



  • Basic knowledge of Predictive Maintenance (Temperature, Vibration and Oil)
  • Read and understand electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics. Troubleshooting
  • Basic knowledge of PLC's, read ladder logic. Troubleshooting.
  • Basic knowledge of Instrumentation and Calibration. Troubleshooting.
  • Installation of 120/240/480V electrical wiring system.
  • Installation of Industrial Electrical Control Panel. Troubleshooting.
  • Read and understand welding blue printers and performance heavy fabrication.
  • Basic knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
  • Basic knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Read and understand mechanical blue printers and performance tasks on machine tools (lathe and mill)



Your Qualifications:

In addition to the qualifications of the Maintenance Associate:



  • Should have prior work experience in maintenance activities in a manufacturing environment, excellent mechanical and electrical abilities, extremely strong knowledge of PLC's, programming and troubleshooting skills, a technical education applicable to maintenance and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
