We're hiring for a State & Local Tax (SALT) Senior for our New York City office. As a SALT Senior, you will be responsible for completing engagements in various areas of state and local taxation, including, but not limited to, multistate income/franchise tax, sales/use tax, and any other area of state and local taxation, as needed. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

  • Perform tax research and provide technical advice on state & local tax issues
  • Assist multi-state companies with state & local tax compliance
  • Investigate and respond to tax agency notices, including those involving unreported income, delinquency penalties, unfiled forms and returns, enforced collection (liens, levies, warrants, garnishments)
  • Prepare and file tax voluntary disclosure submissions
  • Handle all aspects of tax agency audits, including communicating with auditors, responding to IDR's, gathering documents and information from clients
  • Perform tax research, prepare written memoranda discussing and analyzing tax issues
  • Communicates with Partner, Manager and/or Supervising Senior on work status and client issues that arise
  • Participates in planning and execution of client engagement in collaboration with the Manager and/or Partner on the job
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage staff including designing staffing structure of engagement
  • Leads small to medium sized assignments with finalized document and report requiring minimal change upon review
  • Trains, supervises and mentors lower level staff
  • Takes a lead role in client and team meetings and contributes new ideas and strategic initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a preferred field of study in Accounting
  • 3+ years' of relevant work experience in State and Local Taxation (Income/Franchise and/or Sales/Use Tax) with another public accounting firm
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental of income/franchise and sales/use tax concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, but also work well with others

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or State Bar license or on track to obtain
  • J.D., LL.M. in Taxation, or Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation
  • Software Experience - CCH ProSystem, Microsoft Office 365 preferred but not required

Compensation Range

Salary: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00
