Marcum LLP is currently looking for a Tax Transformation Lead to join our Tax Transformation group within the internal Marcum IT department. In this role you will work closely with Tax business leaders and subject matter experts to identify, define and deliver technology products/solutions that deliver the highest business impact and growth for our firm. The successful candidate will enhance our processes, drive standardization, and lead change management efforts. This role requires innovative professional experience with a deep understanding of tax processes and technology. Your ability to effectively manage projects, collaborate with stakeholders, and stay updated with technological advancements will be key to your success as a Tax Transformation Lead. To be considered, candidates should have 7+ years of combined experience in tax technology and tax compliance within a multinational organization or professional service firm, and at least 3 years in a tax compliance role preferred. The Tax Transformation Lead role requires experience working with cross-functional and external teams to identify and enhance processes and implement innovative solutions utilizing technologies such as the Microsoft technology stack, AI/RPA tools, Alteryx, AA, ETL, and/or APIs. Knowledge of tax and accounting-specific software such as the CS Professional Suite/GoSystem Tax RS/GoFileRoom, CCH ProSystem fx/Axcess, or similar is required. Requirements:
  • 7+ years of combined experience in tax technology and tax compliance, within a multinational organization or public accounting firm; at least 3 years in a tax compliance role is preferred
  • Understanding of end-to-end tax compliance engagement life cycle
  • Proven track record in prioritizing and managing multiple complex projects and solutions simultaneously
  • Proven success independently leading a team to gather and document business requirements, test and implement solutions
  • Experience developing business cases for technology investments, include build vs buy analysis, scope anticipated benefits, return on investment (ROI), and resource needs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify business needs, evaluate options, and recommend effective solutions
  • Effective professional level communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at different levels
  • Knowledge of emerging tax technology trends and industry best practices
  • Proficient with a workflow design software, such as Visio
  • Extensive knowledge of tax and accounting-specific software such as the CS Professional Suite/GoSystem Tax RS/GoFileRoom, CCH ProSystem fx/Axcess, or similar
  • Bachelor's degree in in Accounting, Business Management, Computer Science, or equivalent
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with the Agile development process
  • Broad exposure implementing solutions for different business lines within tax, i.e. individual, partnership, corporate, etc.
  • Proficiency in work item management systems such as Smartsheet, Azure DevOps and Jira
  • Experience working with business intelligence teams to design dashboards utilizing tool such PowerBI or Tableau and, practical experience using API-based workflow automation platforms, such as Microsoft PowerAutomate
  • CPA license (active or inactive)
Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead cross-functional teams to assess current tax processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement best practices for tax compliance and consulting services
  • Lead and manage tax transformation projects, including software implementations, process automation and reengineering, and system enhancements from conceptualization, to planning, design, build and implementation
  • Facilitate and lead discovery workshops; Manage teams to: document current and future state, gather and document business requirements and ensure all stakeholders (business and technical) have a clear and common understanding of the business needs, priorities, and proposed solutions
  • Develop business cases for technology investments, detailing the scope of the technology spend, anticipated benefits, return on investment (ROI), a projected timeline and resources needed
  • Manage complex projects ensuring that all projects are completed on schedule and the deliverables meet the project objectives, including developing (or working with a project manager to develop) detailed project plans, coordinating with internal and external teams, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks that could impact project timelines
  • Identify and track KPIs and metrics to measure the success of technology initiatives
  • Build expertise on all aspects of products and processes in the tax service line, via an in depth understanding of existing process and business needs
  • Evaluate and advise on new technologies, vendors and products and stay updated with industry trends
  • Provide training and support to tax team members and other stakeholders on the effective use of tax technology tools and systems. Lead change management efforts to ensure smooth adoption and integration of new tax technology solutions
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders across Marcum LLP

  • Less than 10% travel
