Summary: As an integral part of the Maintenance Management Team, the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is responsible for supporting all of the goals and directives of the Maintenance Department Head. The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Planner is to support efficient maintenance operations by managing, maintaining, and directing the planning and scheduling processes used by the maintenance department. Other duties include managing the flow and accuracy of maintenance work orders and purchase orders from cradle to grave. Supervises Maintenance personnel and directs maintenance activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Safety

  • Observes, interprets, and actively supports and enforces safety procedures and policies.
  • Monitors service providers and contractors to ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Advises management on opportunities to improve safety by:
    • Reporting unsafe conditions or activities.
    • Determining appropriate actions beyond guidelines.
  • Provides guidance on the proper use of equipment and materials.
  • Monitors service providers and contractors to ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Assist Safety and Health coordinator, providing technical support and advice.

Security

  • Observes and actively supports food defense programs and policies.
  • Maintains buildings and structures in support of facility security objectives.

Quality

  • Observes and actively supports organizational quality objectives and policies.
  • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Applies feedback to improve quality performance within the maintenance department.
  • Monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in the performance of duties.
  • Follows all food safety procedures and practices to promote our food safety culture.

Purchasing

  • Performs as needed; all aspects of material and supply procurement for the maintenance function, this includes but is not limited to:
    • Soliciting vendors and obtaining competitive bids where appropriate.
    • Issuing purchase orders and placing orders for needed materials.
    • Monitoring Vendor delivery performance and verifying receipt of materials.
    • Order parts and equipment properly and in a timely matter to reduce downtime.
    • Ensure when parts are purchased, they are tied to a work order using the J.D Edwards CMMS system.
    • Work with the maintenance team to ensure correct parts are being ordered.
    • Approve invoices sent from vendors to make sure they have correct information before sending into corporate.
    • Monitors maintenance purchase orders to ensure accuracy and that purchasing policies are adhered to throughout the process.

Spare Parts and Inventory

Assists maintenance purchasing functions to ensure adequate parts inventory and spares to minimize downtime due to lack of parts.

  • Assists in the development (and enforces) policies and procedures to manage and control inventory accuracy and costs.
  • Tracks maintenance related parts and equipment being shipped in and out of the plant.
  • Ensures parts are entered, stored, and tracked in inventory and the J.D Edwards CMMS system.
  • Performs monthly cycle counts to ensure inventory is correct.
  • Creates new part numbers and locations for new items being kept on shelf for stock.
  • Makes sure inventory is stored in an orderly fashion, every part should have a specific location documented in the system.
  • Acts as a backup to the maintenance purchasing function.

Planning

  • Works to develop and continuously improve the maintenance planning and scheduling process.
  • Ensures we have all tools and parts in stock to complete assigned jobs.
  • Evaluates upcoming projects and prepares part kits and other equipment to support timely and efficient project completion.

Work Orders

  • Review work orders when they are turned in to see if changes need to be made to the PM's.
  • Prints out Preventive Maintenance work orders on a weekly basis.
  • Creates work orders for maintenance members when a task needs to be done.
  • Distributes completed work orders to correct person(s) for customer review and final approval.
  • Files satisfactorily completed work orders in the correct unit folders.
  • Reviews all work orders to assure time and materials are properly accounted for.
  • Closes out work orders after job has been completed.

Contracted Maintenance

  • Coordinates, expedites and assures quality of contracted work with minimum interruption of normal production operations.
  • Monitors Contractors to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures completion of contracted work to expectations and quality standards before approving payment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Makes sure maintenance members have work orders in a timely fashion.
  • Responsible for making sure maintenance employees are correctly entering time on work orders.
  • Trains maintenance members on new procedures being implementing within the department.
  • In the absence of the maintenance manager and Maintenance Supervisor, assumes the responsibilities of managing the maintenance department.
  • Helps coordinate 5S events along with Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications: Relevant experience in industrial maintenance, industrial maintenance Planning and scheduling and/or industrial maintenance supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university

Physical Demands: Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds.

Work Environment: Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, outside weather conditions, cold or hot conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
