Position Overview

The Senior Principal Payer Contracting Counsel is responsible for payer and reimbursement contracting and serves as a strategic market access advisor to the Business Units and market access team. The ideal candidate will have healthcare industry experience, including (i) experience drafting, negotiating and administering payer and reimbursement agreements, (ii) experience working with or within a health system(s) and/or health insurance companies, (iii) superior strategy development skills and (iv) exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • With Market Access senior leadership, assist in leading payer contracting strategy for new product launches.
  • Draft, negotiate, review, analyze, and finalize reimbursement and payer contracts.
  • Manage administration of the company's reimbursement contracts within the overall company database.
  • Advise and counsel market access, sales and marketing, business development, research and development, and other executives, managers and directors of the company with respect to legal market access strategy.
  • Direct and manage/supervise work for team of Market Access payer contracting lawyers and paralegals/contract analysts.
  • Be a self-starter and be able to handle negotiations and close transactions without significant assistance or oversight.
  • Provide confident counsel and efficient support with an optimal balance of facilitating business objectives while managing risk.
  • Manage work of outside counsel in support of the company's payer contracting, business development and other activities.
  • Effectively manage, support, and guide your team, including, but not limited to delegating tasks and responsibilities, assess employee performance and provide helpful feedback and training opportunities.
  • Consistent demonstration of exceptional leadership qualities, including, but not limited to the ability to attract and retain the best team, foster a culture of high performance, lead with integrity, humility, accountability, and courage, and set a clear vision to energize teams towards the future.

  • Ability to travel 20% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from ABA-accredited law school.
  • 15+ years related experience in a healthcare law department (preferably within a large law firm, health system and/or health insurer).
  • State bar membership.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Previous health care industry experience; familiarity with laws and regulations that are implicated by health care commercial contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Salary Range:

$174,000.00 - $277,000.00

The annual base salary shown is a national range for this position on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.
