Scientist 3, Cell and Tissue Genomics - Oncology

Genentech
United States, California, South San Francisco
Sep 22, 2024
The Position

Genentech's Department of Cell and Tissue Genomics - Oncology is seeking a creative and motivated Scientist 3 to generate, analyze, and interpret data from multimodal single-cell datasets and high-content screens to discover/prioritize oncology targets. The successful candidate will leverage large-scale single-cell genomics data to study cancer cell states in disease and therapy response, lead hypothesis generation efforts and test these experimentally in close collaboration with other members of the department. Strong expertise with multimodal single-cell data analysis is required. Experience with chromatin profiling (e.g. ChIP-seq, CUT&RUN, CUT&TAG) is a plus. This is a mixed computational/ wet-lab position involving collaboration with interdisciplinary teams including oncology, translational medicine, NGS, epigenetics, bioinformatics, and AI/ML.

The Opportunity

  • Analyze and interpret multimodal single-cell genomics and epigenomics data from in vitro experiments, patient samples, and high-content screens to generate hypotheses on mechanisms of disease progression and response to therapy.

  • Collaborate with bioinformatics and AI/ML colleagues to develop predictive, interpretable mathematical/statistical/machine learning models for target discovery.

  • Work with experimental scientists to design and implement in vitro experiments to test hypotheses in relevant disease systems.

  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams both within the department and across Genentech.

  • Share research through scientific publications, national and international conferences, and internal presentations.

  • Contribute to lab organization and culture while helping to identify new research opportunities.

Who You Are

  • You have a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, cancer biology, biology, immunology, genomics, or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years total academic and/or industry experience.

  • You have expertise in multimodal single-cell data analyses and interpretation.

  • Hands-on experience with cell culture, NGS library generation, or single-cell assays is required.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills along with demonstrated problem-solving abilities.

  • Rigorous mindset, creativity and passion for problem-solving.

Preferred

  • Experience with chromatin profiling data generation and analysis is preferred.
