Summary of Job Duties:The Department of Physician Assistant Studies at UAMS invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The Assistant Professor will have the primary responsibility of presenting lectures and laboratory instruction, developing and grading examinations and assignments, and recruiting guest lecturers. This individual will be responsible for assisting with the implementation, evaluation, and revision of the didactic and clinical curriculum. They will also be actively involved with student advising, admissions, faculty meetings, service, and scholarly activity. This will be a tenure or non-tenure-track position depending on the qualification of the successful applicant.
Additionally, there may be an opportunity to serve as the associate program director (APD), which includes further administrative and leadership responsibilities. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or medical program.

  • Master's degree required.

  • Current NCCPA certification.

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a practicing PA, or physician.

  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Arkansas.

  • Strong commitment to fulfilling the mission statement of the department, college, and university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree.

  • Teaching experience in physician assistant education or related field (required for APD position).

  • Three or more years of applicable experience.

Reporting

  • The faculty member reports to the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies who serves of the PA program director.

  • Annual performance evaluations will be conducted by the PA program director with input from faculty and staff.

  • For those taking on the associate program director role, additional reporting and responsibilities will be to the program director.

Responsibilities:

Faculty Duties

  • Instructs PA students in areas of knowledge and expertise.
  • Participates in implementation, evaluation, and revision of didactic and clinical phase curriculum.
  • Participates in the ARC-PA continuing accreditation application and maintenance.
  • Course direct specific didactic courses as assigned by the chair/program director.
  • Recruits and orient appropriate lecturers for didactic courses.
  • Participates in academic advising of PA students.
  • Participates in student applicant admissions and interviewing.
  • Participates in laboratory instruction during the didactic and clinical phases of the program.
  • Participates in student evaluation by grading written assignments, written examinations, OSCEs, practical skill competencies, and oral presentations.
  • Participates in faculty meetings and retreats, and department, college, and university committees.
  • Maintain NCCPA certification.
  • Participates in appropriate local, state, and national physician assistant educational and professional associations.
  • Participates in clinical practice or research activities depending on tenure-track or non-tenure-track position. To be determined by the department chair/program director.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism and integrity to be a role model for physician assistant students.
  • Agrees not to participate as a medical provider for students enrolled in the PA program.
  • Active involvement in community service and/or service learning associated with the physician assistant program.
  • Completes other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the chair/program director.

Associate Program Director Duties

  • Assists with the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
  • Supervises the didactic and clinical directors and faculty, ensuring they are current in position-relevant responsibilities.
  • Annually review for currency the didactic and clinical phase student manuals, suggesting updates when necessary.
  • Oversees student remediation processes.
  • Assists the program director in the organization, administration, continuous and periodic review,planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
  • Prepares administrative reports as assigned by the program director.
  • Assists in the development, review, and revision of the mission statement.
  • Oversees ongoing faculty development and peer review.
  • Participates in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of all curricula.
  • Advises and mentors students in the cohort.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
