Evaluates, counsels, and provides treatment for children, adolescents, and their families with a wide range of developmental and behavioral difficulties. Performs work of significant difficulty in providing special medical and consultative care to Boys Town National Research Hospital patients and referral patients. Provides direct medical care and participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary clinic teams.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Provides developmental-behavioral evaluations and care of young children with a wide range of developmental and behavioral health needs including developmental and learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and other special health care needs.
  • Collaboration with other Boys Town National Research Hospital providers and specialties, community resources, and schools.
  • Prescribes and administers treatments, therapies, medications, and other specialized medical care.
  • Monitors patients' conditions and progress.
  • Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary evaluation and remediation team, which may include professionals from non-medical fields.
  • Participates in and/or conducts the various educational programs developed by Boys Town National Research Hospital.
  • Participates in various medical and hospital committees at the Hospital.
  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
  • Abides by all hospital policies, medical staff bylaws/rules, and legal regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate willingness to serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, involving non-physicians, dealing with conditions related to the practice of general inpatient and/or outpatient pediatrics.
  • Apply research expertise as demonstrated by records or sustained work published in medical journals.
  • Communicate concisely both orally and in writing with patients, families, and staff and collaborate with other members of the health care team to enhance care.
  • Make assessments and problem solve.
  • Keep complete and timely records of all events and results of encounters to patients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctor of Medicine Degree from an accredited medical school required.
  • Successful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited residency in pediatrics required.
  • Board certified or eligible leading to certification in Developmental- Behavioral pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics or the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics required.
  • Possess or be able to attain medical licensure in the State of Nebraska required.
  • Ability to maintain certification status or participate in maintenance of certification processes as necessary required.
