Job Summary

We are currently seeking a supportive and organized individual to join our Machine Shop team. This role will be responsible for managing daily operations and team members of a machine shop, ensuring efficiency, safety, and that finished products meet specifications. The Machine Shop Supervisor plans and directs team members to ensure smooth flow of work, pivoting of goals and production standards are met, helping team members be involved in training programs, and developing of staff. The ideal candidate is adaptable, an analytical person, a strong communicator, and can meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects.

Responsibilities


  • Leadership and Planning:


    • Coach and supervise a team of machinists

    • Provide guidance, training, and support

    • Solve production challenges

    • Track and report metrics of productivity and quality

    • Address personnel matters and disciplinary issues

    • Resolve all issues involving tooling, programming, and methods at shop floor level

    • Manage the ordering and disposition of tooling directly with the MRO supplier

    • Collaborate with engineering team to prioritize work orders

    • Help to meet or exceed production targets and quotas

    • Timely completion of daily tasks or projects




  • Communication:


    • Communicate issues and successes within the Machine Shop

    • Ensure production and on-time-delivery targets are known

    • Work with other departments such as engineering and procurement, and keep open communication for best collaboration




  • Documentation:


    • Complete training logs and other required paperwork accurately

    • Document any issues, defects, or deviations from standard procedures

    • Complete administrative tasks such as timekeeping, attendance, efficiency, turn backs, 5S, PMPD, maintaining the skills matrix, and record-keeping



  • Product Knowledge:


    • Stay up-to-date on the features and benefits of Machine Shop operations and product lines

    • Generate CNC programs and methods using Mastercam software

    • Participate in process improvement initiatives

    • Perform quality checks by established quality procedures and ISO requirements



  • Training and Development:


    • Promote continuous improvement and development

    • Ensure team attends monthly EHS training



  • Quality Control:


    • Implement and enforce quality control processes

    • Conduct regular inspections and address any deviations from standards



  • Equipment Maintenance:


    • Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure machines are maintained and serviced regularly

    • Communicate equipment issues to minimize backlog



  • Safety Compliance:


    • Ensure all safety guidelines are met, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

    • Lift a maximum of 35 lbs for an individual and 70 lbs for a team lift

    • Test PSI limit no greater than 30,000



  • Cleanliness and Organization:


    • Maintain a clean and organized work area

    • Follow 5S principles (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)





Qualifications


  • Associate's degree in manufacturing or industrial engineering or equivalent, preferred

  • 4 - 7 years' experience in manufacturing supervisor/ lead role, preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years' operating equipment within a machine shop including CNC milling, turning machines and conventional lathes and mills

  • Experience with recent supervisory roles within a machine shop or manufacturing environment

  • Experience in machining, methods and tools used

  • Ability to read and understand the bill of materials and work order instructions, blueprints, or technical drawings

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations

  • Demonstrated time management skills, strategic thinking, and adaptability

  • Proficient in G and M codes, SolidWorks, and Mastercam

  • Proficient computer knowledge (i.e. log on credentials (SSO), JD Edwards, and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs
