Work type: On Campus Location: Normal, Illinois Title: CHAIR, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Job Summary The College of Applied Science and Technology invites applications for the position of Chair in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). We are seeking a dynamic, collaborative chair to lead a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in the department, which include Fashion Design & Merchandising; Food, Nutrition & Dietetics; Human Development & Family Science; Interior Design; and Teacher Education. The Chair is responsible for strategic leadership, fiscal management, curriculum development and review, personnel recruitment, enrollment management, departmental accreditations, assessment, advancement, and oversight of the teaching and research laboratories. The Chair will encourage and support high quality research, teaching, and service, and advocate for the resources needed to sustain the Department's mission and vision. The Chair will develop and maintain partnerships within and outside the university, as well as promote the Department's programs to alumni, businesses, government agencies, and other educational institutions. The preferred start date for this position is July 1, 2025. Additional Information The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences has approximately 530 undergraduate and 115 graduate students, 24 full-time and 4 part-time faculty, 2 full-time academic advisors, and 2 civil service staff. The FCS department has a collegial collaborative atmosphere among faculty, staff, and students. The Department is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and offers six undergraduate programs as well as a number of master's level programs, sequences, and a graduate certificate. The FCS Department houses four accredited programs including: undergraduate Interior Design (CIDA), undergraduate Teacher Education program (NCATE), undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics (ACEND), and a graduate Dietetic Internship (ACEND). The Human Development and Family Science program is also an approved Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) Program by the National Council on Family Relations. The department also operates the ISU Child Care Center, which is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Salary Rate / Pay Rate Commensurate with experience and qualifications Required Qualifications 1) A doctoral degree in an area appropriate to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, with academic achievement that merits appointment with tenure at the rank of associate or full professor. Preferred Qualifications Academic achievement that merits appointment with tenure at the rank of full professor preferred.
