We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon. As a Scientist supporting the U.S. Development of Formulation Team, in Duluth, GA, a typical day will include:

  • Performs lab-scale polymer synthesis, modification, purification, formulation and characterization.

  • Performs polymer formulation, process and characterization in a research and development laboratory environment.

  • Highly motivated in laboratory research tasks and strong hands-on bench experience.

  • Demonstrates understanding in both, materials' technology and lens production process, to ensure compatibility between material and process. Identifies and optimizes novel materials for their use in lens, saline, and lens care product formulations.

  • Demonstrates understanding of structure/property relationship in polymers, specifically the relationship between molecular architecture/morphology and bulk contact lens properties.

  • Handles, uses, stores and disposes all lab used chemicals as outlined in MSDS, SOP and other company prescribed, state and federal guidelines. Also, complies with all company established Health, Safety and Environment operational requirements.

  • Uses relevant statistical techniques and methods to plan and execute experiments and to analyze experimental data.

  • Provides timely communication on planned and completed work to the project & functional team members and leadership through written reports and presentations.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +8 yrs; Assoc.+4 yrs)

  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English

  • Work hours: 40 hours

  • Travel: 10%

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a chemical science/engineering discipline with adequate experience (MS with 0-2 yrs; BS with 0-4 yrs).

  • Background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering

  • Training in the area of polymer or organic molecule design, synthesis and characterization is desired.

  • Excellent technical communication skills.
