ChampionX is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Principal Chemist to join our Asset Integrity RD&E team located in Sugar Land, TX. The qualified candidate will be responsible for managing projects, conducting laboratory testing, analyzing data and providing chemical program recommendations to our customers and sales stakeholders. The Principal Chemist will use applied scientific research to develop novel solutions in the area of corrosion for the oil & gas industry. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about science, enjoys problem solving, and has a keen eye for detail.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead high impact projects related to Oil & Gas corrosion challenges
  • Create novel chemistries/formulations
  • Develop new lab testing capabilities
  • Explore adjacent technology
  • Drive sustainability and digital solutions
  • Interface with both internal and external customers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent PhD in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Materials Science or related technical field or 5 years of experience in Oil & Gas corrosion
  • Experience in tailoring molecular structure property relationships to solve real world problems
  • Proven track record of innovation and problem solving - multiple publications/patents/presentations
  • Ability to interpret data from advanced analytical techniques to solve problems (GC-MS, LC-MS, NMR, GPC, XRF, SEM, etc.)
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Detail orientated and outstanding time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%

  • The desired candidate will be outgoing, creative, a self-starter, and team oriented
