Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician in our Boca Raton, FL office. The position is ideal for individuals interested in building a career in the environmental construction and consulting fields. The role will compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data; perform a variety of multi-media sampling efforts; oversee environmental and remediation construction projects; and provide additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private and public-sector client base. You will work on your own or as a part of a larger field support team on site-specific project tasks. The ability and willingness to work outdoors, perform extensive fieldwork, and travel for extensive periods of time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays is required. An interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction;
  • Monitor contractor activities on job sites to ensure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g., technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.);
  • Provide CQA observation and monitoring on several types of construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites;
  • Perform multi-media sampling in support of investigations, monitoring programs, and other data collection centric projects.
  • Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports;
  • Ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures;
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation;
  • Assist in the preparation of the final data packages, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;
  • Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company's Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures; and
  • Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). (required)
  • Up to two (2) years applicable experience. (preferred)
  • Experience ensuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously. (preferred)
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. (preferred)
  • Experience with the operation of industry typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited laptop and handheld computers, Troxler moisture /density gauges, scales, Elkins or GEM, and other equipment. (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air. (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, and strong work ethic. (required)
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
  • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation, for business travel. (required)
