Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time senior bridge engineer position in our Kansas City, MO; St. Louis, MO; Seattle, WA; Lisle, IL; Peoria, IL; or Springfield, IL offices.

Position Profile

This position will work within our Railway Market in the Bridges Discipline for rail bridge projects, as well as bridge projects in the Infrastructure Market and potentially other structural projects in all of Hanson's Markets.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex engineering calculations, utilize computer software for analysis and design, and work efficiently with other team members for project completion.
  • Be involved in all project aspects including design/study development and site/field visits during design and construction.
  • Efficiently oversee the production of quality deliverables including plans, specifications, reports and cost estimates, while meeting project scope, budget, and schedule on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients, and public agencies.
  • Ability to delegate design tasks, coordinate with various disciplines involved in complex projects and work with design teams in other offices and/or states.
  • Develop and mentor junior and mid-level staff to develop future project managers and design leads.
  • Ability to provide QA/QC on bridge/structural design projects.
  • Ability to assist in marketing efforts to pursue future work, letters of interest, presentations and developing scopes of work and fee proposals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Technical Skills:

  • Experience with MicroStation is required.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Experience with structural design software packages such as Risa, LPILE, Bentley Leap Bridge Concrete is required.
  • Experience with AREMA is required.
  • Experience with Midas Civil or Larsa4D is desirable.

Soft Skills:

  • Must be able to communicate complex technical concepts to engineers, clients, and/or public stakeholders.
  • Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
  • Interest in experiencing a variety of assignments is important.

Education/Experience:

  • 10-25 years of experience of railway bridge design. Highway bridge design experience is desirable.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • The ability to sit for the 16-hour NCEES Structural exam
  • Registration as a Structural Engineer (S.E.) is desirable.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering is desirable.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with BNSF, CN, and/or NS design practices, development of bridge plans and standards.
  • Experience on projects with complex bridge types and components.
  • Experience providing office support (RFI's, Submittals, etc.) to projects during construction.
  • Participation with technical society organizations.
  • Working with and managing project staff.
  • Open to construction field assignments on an as needed basis

Working at Hanson:

  • Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
  • Must be willing to accept periodic out-of-town travel assignments.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime to meet project demands and deadlines.

Salary range: $120,000 - $180,00
