Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector in our SW FL region. This position will be responsible for construction observation and documentation of airport construction projects. These projects are primarily runways, taxiways, access roads, aprons, fencing and security perimeter areas, lighting systems, and site development associated with these areas. This is a position that requires travel to work assignments throughout the southwest and central parts of Florida. Standard work hours of this position are not defined and may vary weekly depending on construction schedules. This is an hourly position where overtime is consistent. This position is located in Southwest FL, with our regional office located in Sarasota, FL. Candidates living in the SW FL region are encouraged to apply.

General Duties:

  • Perform complex technical construction observation assignments related to drainage, roadway, taxiway (surface construction projects), utilities/lighting and site development.
  • Follow general guidance regarding construction task orders and exercise initiative and independent judgment in the resolution of construction related problems.
  • Monitor the quality of materials and workmanship throughout the construction process.
  • Verify contractors' work meets specified quality standards and project requirements.
  • Prepare reports and maintain daily logs of inspections and review any discrepancies with the proper parties.
  • Verify the progress and final estimates throughout the construction project duration.
  • Recognize construction issues such as delays, errors, etc. and communicate with relevant team members to apply standard techniques and procedures to resolve issues.
  • Implement field changes to required drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering computations to ensure accuracy.
  • Attend construction meetings with project managers, project teams, clients, and contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma/equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of construction experience preferably related to airport projects. Experience with road, bridge and other heavy highway projects would be considered beneficial as well.
  • This position will be required to operate a company vehicle. A current driver's license and a clean driving record is required and must be maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required minimum qualifications, the following will result in a more competitive candidate:

  • Federal Aviation Administration project experience.
  • FDOT or other DOT construction field, documentation, and material testing certifications experience.
  • Strong communication and technical skills.
  • Excellent visualization, communication, and documentation skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet).
  • Project management experience, especially in the construction field.
  • Certifications such as Concrete Field Technician Level I, Asphalt Roadway Level I, Asphalt Roadway Level II, Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I, Earthwork Construction Inspection Level II, and/or shallow and deep foundation inspection.
  • Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification
    Program for Inspectors and Contractors.

Physical Demands:

The position requires the ability to work at and easily maneuver around construction sites in various weather conditions.
