Job Description

Are you a dynamic Systems Engineer with previous experience in execution of the DHS systems engineering lifecycle (SELC) and familiarity with DHS acquisition lifecycle framework (ALF)? We have a great opportunity for you located in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia!

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Systems Engineer (SME)with expertise in all or any of these areas:

**Must have an Active CBP BI clearance or TOP SECRET clearance at the time of application.**

A Day in the Life of a Systems Engineer (SME):



  • Architect, design, develop, and implement engineeringsolutions for CBP programs.
  • Work in tandem with our engineering team to identify and implement the most optimalsolutions for the organization.
  • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Lead program SELC tailoring development and preparing the final SELC Tailoring Plan for program management staffing.
  • In coordination with the assigned LSE (and applicable leadership teams), provide oversight, development and technical leadership of engineering documents as identified in the program/project SELC Tailoring Plan.
  • Provide program leadership of all technical matters relating to the product(s).
  • Provide technical direction, in alignment with Program Management views, to all engineers assigned to the program / project.

Job Requirements

  • Mustbe a U.S. Citizen
  • CBP (BI)or Top Secret clearanceREQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years' experience (or High School and 16+ years' experience).
  • Experience in one or more of the following:

    • Network Communications
    • AI (Artificial Intelligence)
    • Enterprise Architecture
    • Cybersecurity
    • Cloud Engineering


  • Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of business analysts, developers, data scientists, and subject-matter experts.
  • Must have practical experience and project management knowledge necessary to manage large and complex program requirements and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and SharePoint are required.
  • Previous experience in applyingsystems engineering policies and processes in compliance with the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection systems engineering standards / procedures.
