Job Description

Associate Director, Market Transformation

Location: Boston, MA (3 days onsite, 2 days remote weekly)

Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our US Pain Business Unit to support our journey to deliver new pain management treatment options to patients. The Associate Director, Market Transformation will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and managing strategic projects in alignment with our business priorities. This is a critical role as our team is preparing for potential commercialization of an investigational acute pain product, which, if approved, would be the first new mechanism of action in decades. We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in US commercial roles, demonstrated ability to shape and execute strategy, an innovative mindset to pilot new approaches, and a strong collaborative approach. This role reports to the Senior Director and Head of the Market Transformation for the US Pain Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Head of Market Transformation to define the vision and objectives for the Market Transformation team

  • Identify and catalogue strategic opportunities through market research, syndicated data, and external engagements

  • Craft clear problem and challenge statements to conceptualize opportunities for key internal stakeholders

  • Develop an end-to-end framework to manage opportunities through business case development, decision-making processes/governance, and implementation

  • Define target KPIs and track progress of projects to ensure operational efficiency

  • Collaborate with Market Access, Strategic Accounts, Commercial, Marketing, Contracting, Trade, Pricing, Legal, Compliance, Leadership, and support functions on strategic projects

  • Lead change management initiatives focused on customer-centered design thinking, idea generation and evaluation, managing through uncertainty, and adaptability

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals in marketing, consulting or agency in, or an equivalent combination of experience and education

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities and ability to model expected behavior for the team

  • Experience defining and executing upon strategies with the proven ability to drive innovation approaches to maximize effectiveness

  • Strong innovation skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and courage to challenge the status quo to develop innovative and focused approaches to enable launch through data and technology

  • Ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities

  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and results-driven environment within a growing business unit where we are concurrently learning & building as we drive towards product launch

  • Analytical mindset, with ability to make strategic recommendations based on data and insights

  • Role models high performing team behaviors, all in on team activities and setting the tone for accountability and engagement

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive presence and strong MS office skills

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
